Congratulations to our high school band on being selected to participate in the honor band concert at VIT High School in Table Grove. The students traveled to Table Grove on Thursday to practice all day, and then participated in a concert that night. Emmy Tiethoff, Caitlyn Faulkner, Zander Schaill, Zack Piper, Zach Rogers, Quinn Miller, LeighAnn Tiethoff, and CJ Piper were invited. We’re sure the students had a great time participating!
The Boy is a great thriller that was released on January 22, 2016. The plot is a young girl named Greta lands a job as a nanny to an English couple that has an 8 year old boy in a small English village. To her surprise, the boy that she is taking care of happens to be a doll. At first, she is amused by this, and laughs it off. Until she realizes the couple is 100% serious. She finds out that the boy, named Brahms, really died in a fire in a fire in 1991. The parents have such a hard time dealing with it that they use the doll in place of their son, acting as if it was real. She finds all this out from the grocery boy named Malcolm. The parents give Greta a list of rules to follow for Brahms, and she promises to fulfill these duties. As soon as the parents leave, she does not take care of their “child” and does not attend to any of the duties. Ironically, weird things start happening when she does not follow the rules. Her clothes would end up missing, the doll would move to different places when she is not in the room, and she hears weird noises and even voices around the house. After she realizes the doll moves by its self, she showed Malcolm and proved that the doll does indeed do so. Eventually her ex-boyfriend Cole finds that she has the nanny job and comes uninvited to bring her back home. He sees Malcolm there, and assumes that they are together in a relationship and he handles it very poorly. He then takes Brahms and breaks it on the ground to pieces in anger. What happens next is the best part and the prime of the movie. Something so unexpected happens. It is so crazy. I highly recommend everyone goes and gives this movie a try, as I will bet they will not suspect the ending. It is one of the best movies I’ve seen in theaters in a long time! I honestly give it a 4.5-5.
The sounds of Christmas filled the air of the Peoria heights Grade School gym Monday night. Mr. Chris Piper and the fifth grade band opened the concert with Jingle Bells. They followed with the traditional favorites, Good King Wenceslas, Jolly Old St. Nicholas.
The PHHS choir, under the direction of Mr. Bolton, presented A Christmas Medley. This year’s choir is small but mighty! Members include Jessica Quinn, Emmy Tiethoff, and Susan Kness. The Peoria Heights Grade School sang two numbers, Christmas in the Air and On Christmas Morning. The PHHS choir joined them for Go in Peace. Senior Emmy Tiethoff sang Silent Night, and Mr. Piper and the PHHS Concert Band, a combined group of high school and junior high played Christmas Winds. The band closed the concert with Mussorgsky’s The Great Gate of Kiev, rounding out the evening of music festivities. On Friday, November 6th, the new James Bond movie was released. Spectre, which is the fourth movie with Daniel Craig playing James Bond, was a big hit at the box office, bringing in more than $70 million in the first weekend. The movie, held together with that classic James Bond theme, had many twists and turns. While keeping its James Bond originality, the movie showcased the newest gadgets and devices available in the James Bond world, including the newest sports car to be added to the 007 series, the Aston Martin DB10. What should you expect out of the movie? High action, flipping cars, and chase scenes can all be expected out of Spectre. The movie was a big hit with critics and viewers, and I would highly suggest going to see it!
On Tuesday November 17, Brianna Varvil participated in the Bradley Fresh/Soph honor band at Dingledine concert hall. To get selected she had to submit an application and a teacher recommendation. Then the Bradley band director chose her. She played several songs including Scramble, Bricks Street, and nevermore. She got to be put in a band with about 90 other people. She said it went really well and everyone played great, but it was very tiring. She said it was really nice to be able to play in such a big band.
8.2/10 Stars
When Tony Stark and Bruce Banner try to jump-start a dormant peacekeeping program called Ultron, things go horribly wrong and it's up to Earth's mighteous heroes to stop the villainous Ultron from enacting his terrible plans. Parents need to know that Avengers: Age of Ultron is the highly anticipated sequel to 2012's epic adventure The Avengers. Fans will love the mix of over-the-top action and humor as Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), the Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Captain America (Chris Evans), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) reteam to defeat Ultron (James Spader), an intelligent robot determined to wipe out humanity. The biggest issue, of course, is the explosive, comic book-style violence, which includes nonstop destruction, fighting, weapons, flipping cars, imploding buildings, citywide devastation, and massive civilian casualties implied. There's also one sad death, as well as some kissing/flirting/innuendo/cleavage, swearing and celebratory drinking. But as always with the Avengers, the ultimate message is that teamwork and loyalty will always save the day. From artists to musicians and from graphic designers to vocal specialists Brown Bag-It is the place to go if you’re looking for a daily dose of high school artistic talent. Every year, schools gather in downtown Peoria to take part in this event. We send students from all different corners of our collective art group. From what I’ve been told, there were some very impressive displays and performances at this year’s Bag-It. Our band and choir both performed with the outgoing seniors as the rest of the students ate lunch as they watched. If Brown Bag-It sounds interesting to you then add an art class to your schedule next year, and you might even find a new passion in your journey to the field trip.

Many people have been really excited for the summer. Not just to be out of school, and to wake up at 12 every day, but also to watch some awesome movies. Opening the summer season, The Avengers: Age of Ulton, on Friday. Jurassic World is coming out on June 12th, Ted 2 comes out June 26th, Insidious comes out June 5th, and The Fantastic Four comes out August 7th. From my point of view, Jurassic World looks like it is going to be a great movie. It stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. Fast and Furious 7 ☆☆☆☆: 4 Stars Even the family theme of the previous films is given less room this time. Most of that theme is expressed by Vin Diesel using the word “family” in a sentence. Letty, played by Michelle Rodriguez, goes on something like a vision quest early in the film, and then simply returns, with a last-ditch scene late in the movie to explain what her inconsequential disappearance was about. The sheer spectacle of “Furious 7” — Universal Pictures crashed at least 230 vehicles during filming — led to enormous chatter on social media networks after its arrival on April 3, which in turn has kept demand high: The movie took in about $60.6 million between Friday and Sunday, for a two-week total of $252.5 million. That early total is simply massive. To compare, “Fast & Furious 6” took in less — $239 million — during its entire 15-week domestic run in 2013. “Furious 7” has sold an additional $548 million in tickets overseas. With $800 million worldwide, “Furious 7” is on track to be the first $1 billion movie of the year. Some say that there will be a fast and furious 8 but who knows what the future holds.
