Have you seen the new student teachers? Mrs. Gorman recently got a new student teacher, Miss Barron, and she came from the Chicago suburbs, Downers Grove. Miss Barron went to a small Catholic school, so she’s used to the small environment of Peoria Heights. She said she likes the 1 on 1 work that comes with a small school. It’s easier to build a strong relationship with other students. Miss Barron came to Peoria to attend Bradley University and achieve her goal of becoming a special education teacher. She chose to teach in special education because she has a learning disability herself. She wants to help kids who have had some of the same struggles that she went through while trying to learn. I asked if she had some advice for anyone interested in teaching, and she said, “Make sure you have some experience with people.” She also said to work on your social skills and your organizing and patience.
