Adrianne qualified to participate in the three point showdown during the shootout between the basketball girls at our school. A three point showdown is when you get 45 seconds to shoot five balls from three different spots. At Regionals Adrianne made six three pointers ending up in a six way tie. The tie breaker includes shooting 5 shots from each baseline. Adrianne made five three pointers, and that was enough to advance her to Sectionals. At Sectionals she only made five three pointers. Even though she didn’t advance past Sectionals, she did a great job and we’re all so proud of her! Congrats Adrianne! You had a great season and we’re going to miss you next year! Adrianne gets ready to take the shot on senior night

Another great season by our wrestler Tanner Coleman. Tanner put in tons of hard work and dedication, like he does every year, and it pays off like always. He is a prime example of if you put in hard work, you will get good results. TC placed 5th in state at the IHSA state tournament at the University of Illinois, with an incredible record of 33-2. All of us are proud of him, and we all should give him a big congratulations for putting our school on the map with his wrestling abilities. Keep reading the Towncrier for more updates about school and other events! Tanner Coleman stands on his head, as he makes his move at the IHSA Sectional. Courtesy of the Peoria Journal Star.
The boys’ basketball team are wrapping up their season with an 11-16 record. This season has not turned out how they wanted it to. It had its ups and downs, but they never gave up. They fell hard against Brimfield, Elmwood, and South Fulton, but they hope to push their way through regionals. This year we will be hosting the boys’ basketball regionals and the 3-point contest in the Roger Bergia gymnasium. Regionals start Monday, February 23. The Varsity boys play Tuesday, February 24 against Brimfield. Come out and support them.
The Scholastic Bowl season is almost over, and your Patriots are trying to finish strong. On February 19, the team was at Knoxville for a Prairieland Conference meet. The team went 3-0. On Saturday, the team went to the Masonic tournament at Bushnell. They won their pool to advance to the semifinals. They would lose to United in the opening round, but would bounce back by defeating Cuba for third place.
The Prairieland Conference tournament will be held in March. The team tied with Farmington, so a coin flip will determine if they advance. On March 9, the team will be in their IHSA regional, as they look to advance in the state tourney. Congratulations to the class of 2015 seniors involved in boys’ basketball, cheerleading, dance team, and band. Senior night was held on Tuesday, February 17th. The senior basketball players recognized were Dominick Hutchinson and DeAntrae Mixon. Along with the basketball players, others recognized were cheerleaders Kirstan Bennett, Aliyah Boyd, Kristina Hitesman, Madison Schneider, and Haley Shearburn; dance team members Bethany Dillow, Kaylee Dudley, Cassy Powers, and Brittney Williams; and band members Jessica Carter, Ryan Klute, Logan Monast, and Kurtis Welch. Although there was a wide range of future plans within this group of seniors, many had plans of going to college after graduation. The class of 2015 seniors collectively had a very impressive list of school involvement including clubs, student government positions, academic accomplishments, and other sports. Cassy Powers, Kaylee Dudley, Brittney Williams, and Bethany Dillow pose before dancing one last time on Senior Night.
Key Club has some big events coming up. On Sunday, many members volunteered at the kids wrestling meet that was held at our high school. There were various jobs done by the members including runners, score keepers, and table help. The blood drive will be today, February 27th. Come out and donate blood for a good cause! This year our Key Club will not be attending March Madness during the school day, but they will be going Tuesday, March 17th after school. They will assist with the special needs basketball games at the Experience. The annual Key Club convention will be March 13-15th. This year’s officers will be attending along with the recently elected 2015-2016 officers. The new officers are: President Madilyn Tortat, Vice-President Jarin Wallace, Editor Cole Reilly, Secretary Katie Markovich, and Treasurer Michelle Dang. The convention is held in Bloomingdale, Illinois. The main objective of this convention is to gain knowledge about international and future opportunities Key Club offers. Sign up for all these opportunities in Mrs. Gorman’s room!
The boys’ baseball team held an informational meeting last week. The team had 19 players at the meeting, but they are still looking for more players. Baseball practice will begin in March. The team has some high expectations for this season. Coach King has the same expectations as every year; win a regional title. The Patriots return all their pitchers from last year’s 14-13 campaign. Sophomores Blake Begner and Tyler Gregory will be the aces of the staff, each winning four games last year. The team is excited to get going, and they hope to have a lot of students come out and support the team this year. Lastly, the best part about baseball starting means that warmer weather is right around the corner! Our baseball team lining up for the national anthem at Dozer park last year
The Wyse regionals are over, but this year’s WYSE season has just begun! Congratulations to our WYSE team placing first in regionals, but this means that they must now head back to ICC in April for the sectionals. Our school competes in the small school division, which is for schools with less than 300 students. This means we competed with schools such as Brimfield, Delavan, Hartsburg Emden, Peoria Christian, Princeville, and Quest. Out of all these schools, we won 1st place, with Princeville taking 2nd, and Peoria Christian 3rd. After those amazing results on the overall scores, how did we so on the individual tests though? Again, we competed against the other schools in the small division, and here is how we ranked: In computer science, Logan Monast received 2nd place. In engineering, Cassy Powers received 3rd. And in biology, Rachel Seitz and Sabrina Sedekum tied for 3rd, and Ryan Klute got 1st. Congratulations to all of the WYSE team and best of luck to you guys in April at the sectionals! L-R: Cassy Powers, Ryan Klute, Logan Monst, Sabrina

The varisty boys’ basketball team demolished BPC 50-24 on February 6th. Noah Persich scored a team high 22 points. On Tuesday, the Patriots lost to Peoria Christian 56-39. The players remained competitive throughout the game, and even went on an 11-3 run in the third quarter. Peoria Christian’s head coach was quoted in the Journal Star saying, “It’s a win, but there were minutes when Heights was the better team.” Tanner Doerr led the team with 14 points and DeAntrae added 12 rebounds. The Patriots have all conference games coming up facing Brimfield, Elmwood, and South Fulton. Friday’s game against Brimfield will be a red out to support St. Jude. Senior night is Tuesday, February 17th. Come out and support your Patriots! Tanner Derr takes the shot
