GREAT EFFORT!!! Varsity had their regionals on May 4. They won their first two matches but sadly, they lost the championship match. Williamsfield was their first match with a score of 200-100. Henry was their second match with a score of 200-160. The championship match was against Putnam County with a score of 130-250. Both varsity and FS had great records. Varsity’s record was 38-35 with 501 questions answered out of 73 matches. FS’s record was 12-21 with 139 questioned answered out of 38 matches. A special thanks to Mr. Vallosio for being the scholastic coach for 28 years! In 28 years he led his team to an outstanding record of 1093-557! He is retiring this year and will be greatly missed!

On your mark! Get set! GO! Those will be the first words shouted when the Peoria Heights track team starts their season. The track team has been practicing for about two weeks. The track team has a lot of runners returning including the 4x200 relay team which includes Courtney Michael, Aeriel Storey, Jada Jones, and Kayla Peterson, also one of the top boy runners is returning in Devon Johnson. “It’s been different this year” said Mr. Smith, “They’ve been working very hard even though we haven’t step foot on the track yet.” He also said that “this year the team will be physically and have more cardio this year.” The first track meet is on Tuesday March 19 at Stark County at 415.
So far, the majority of baseball has been played indoors. The team has only got outside a hand full of times due to the snow, and rain. Which has made the field extremely unplayable? The team has been working in the gym mostly up in the batting cage, in the weight room, along with doing fundamental drills in the gym. The gym has been pretty crowded and the team is ready to get on the field, and start playing games. The Monmouth Roseville double header has been cancelled, along with Peoria Christian, and Williamsfield, has been cancelled. The team plays Peoria Central next on Thursday. Hopefully the weather gets better, and come out to support the Peoria Heights baseball team.
"Dancing with the feet is one thing, but dancing with the heart is another." -Unknown. It is sad to say that this season is already over. Four outstanding seniors, Shelby Lowery, Kenzie Riggins, Larissa Baize, and Amanda Markovich will be leaving us this year. The season ended with three home games in a row. On February 4, we danced to “You’re The One” by Rihanna. Kenzie Riggins made up that cute dance. They wore white jerseys and black pants. On February 8, we danced to “More” by Usher. Coach Ingersol made up that energetic dance. They wore all black. Senior night, February 12, we danced to “Footloose.” Larissa Baize and Amanda Markovich made up this awesome dance. They all wore different colored tank tops and black pants. The four seniors mentioned at the beginning were honored at this game. We are all going to miss these seniors very much and we wish them the best of luck.
Baseball season is coming!!! This season the baseball team is looking to make a deep run into the postseason and should have a great season. Coach King is looking for a successful season, due to the fact that the team only lost one starter and is returning all players who contribute, including the team’s top hitter Kris Whalen, and two of the Conference’s top pitchers Zach Wilson and Lucas Hunt. Along with, junior third basemen Blake Maxwell, who was one of the best hitters on the team during his sophomore year. The team also added Washington transfer, utility player, Nick Karl. The Patriots come into this season with high expectations that they should be competing with every team they play, and the team will be working hard all spring in hopes of a Regional title. Please come out to watch the Peoria Heights baseball team.

As basketball and wrestling season comes to a close, spring sports are just around the corner. Last Thursday, Mr. Smith, Mrs. Lowe and Mrs. Barnes held the first track and field informational meeting of the year. Before retiring, Mr. Crumrine and Mrs. Miller were the head coaches of track and field. This year, however, Mr. Smith is the head coach, and we’re all expecting great, new things from him! All track events (dash, long and high jumps, distance running and field events) will begin practices next week. Peoria Heights is hoping to continue the streak of breaking school records and pushing athletes to the best of their ability. Make sure to come out to home meets to support your fellow Patriots!
