The second year for the leadership academy is underway! The adult sponsor of Leadership Academy this year is Mr. Roger Larson. He leads all the meetings and is a teacher to all the members of the academy. The members of the Leadership Academy this year are: Taylor Hess, Madilyn Tortat, Gabby Williams, Kensey Schol, Shawna Stewart, Blake Begner, Taylor Peterson, Charles Schneider, Cole Rilley, Cody Stewart, Noah Nelson, Kayla Martin and Jessi Webb. The first meeting took place on August 29th at the Peoria Heights High School. At this meeting we learned about leadership personalities, and then we took a test to figure out what color personality each member had. The next meeting was held on September 12th at the Village Hall. At this meeting, we had a panel of guest speakers to talk about leadership in our community, and Mayor Mark Allen was the main speaker. After that, we had a meeting on September 19th at the Chamber of Commerce. We had another panel that week that included speakers such as David Koehler and Jehan- Gordon Booth. The next Leadership meeting will be held on September 26th at Peoria Heights Public Library.

The golf team is doing great for their first year ever competing! Mr. Lewis is the coach this year, and he is coaching Trevor Heath and Charlie Schneider. Trevor Heath scored a 93 on the meet on Wednesday. With that score he is now considered an all-conference athlete.
The cross country team is doing extremely great as well. Mrs. Cocquit is doing a better job than ever coaching over the runners, and it shows in their improving times. Noah Raices and Seth Boyer both got their personal bests at the last meet. The season is not over yet though, so be prepared for more personal records broken and everyone’s times improving. Come to both the golf and cross country meets to cheer on your fellow patriots. Thanks for reading the Town Crier and keep reading for more updates! The volleyball team went to Midland on September 14th. JV and Varsity took the Timberwolves to three games, but they ended up losing. As Coach Barnes says, “We are knocking at the door for our first victory.” September 15, the lady patriots took on the Princeville Princesses at home. Both JV and varsity lost, but there is still hope for that victory. September 17, the team played the Brimfield Indians, both teams lost. On Saturday, September 19 the Varsity team went to Princeville for a tournament and went 2-2 and placed 4th in the whole tournament. Coagulations to A. J. McCumber and Taylor Peterson for being selected for the all tournament team from our school. Monday, September 21, they played at Rushville-Industry. JV and varsity fought hard, but they did not win. Tuesday, September 22, they played Roanoke- Benson, and both teams lost in two games.
The football team went to Rushville Industry on September 11th. They lost 21-34. It was not a fair game, but that is okay. They still went out and fought their hardest during that game to try and get that victory. September 18th was our annual white out night at home. The game was against South Fulton, and even though it stormed all the way up till kickoff, the football team won 26-8, so now that leaves them 2-2 going up to face Lewistown on Friday, September 25th. Please come out and support your Heights- Quest family! This year, for the first time in a couple decades, Peoria Heights High School has a golf team! The golf team, which consists of Freshman Trevor Heath and Sophomore Charles Schneider, has already had four golf matches. Even more, both players on the team have had matches where they finished in the top five players. The most recent match was the Prairieland Conference Tournament at Wee-Ma-Tuk Golf Course. The team has been practicing daily at Peoria Area Golf Courses and at the Peoria Golf Academy. Though the golf team is small, that has not stopped them from competing with and defeating some golf teams in the area that are much larger. The golf team’s next match will be Monday, September 14th. The match will be at Parkview Golf Course in Pekin, Illinois and will be hosted by Pekin High School.
This year, be prepared for another competitive and fun year in cross country! Mrs.Cocquit mentors our cross country runners: Josh Beeney, Zephen Schaill, Cody Bachman, Noah Raices, Mason Hill, Kelsey Walton, Brandon Mirabal, Jacob Heid, and Seth Boyer. This year we have already had impressive times by all of our runners. It is just the beginning of the year, so we expect all of their times to better before the end of the season. Come support them at our home meets, which will take place at the old Donavon golf course. Keep reading the Town Crier for more updates.
Volleyball has finally begun. The lady Patriots had a meet the team Saturday, August 28, they worked on their warmup and then scrimmaged against each other to get ready for their first game. The season actually started Monday, August 31st against Henry. Jv team won in two games. Varsity is a different story, they played very well against Henry and lost. They had some good time, but then they fell apart and struggled a bit to get back in the game. Tuesday, September 1 we played Williamsfield and yet again Jv won. Varsity did better against Williamsfield then Henry, but they still didn’t come out with a win. Thursday, September 3 they played against Lewistown, both teams lost that night. Tuesday, September 8 was the girls’ first home game against Bushnell Prairie City. Each team played three matches, but lost. No one is disappointed on how the games went, you could tell we were fighting to win. Thursday, September 10 against Farmington. Both teams fought hard. Varsity is still looking for their victory. Everyone should still continue to come out and support your Lady Patriots. Courage, Fire, Desire.
“We’re #1, Peoria Heights High School, Go Heights!” Those words rang out from the stands frequently during the season opener on August 28th, with the Patriots scoring several first half touchdowns. The Patriots upset Ridgewood 40-34 in a back and forth battle. Several players had big games. Geno Hess was second in the area with 180 rushing yards, Jarin Wallace was also second in the area, picking up 120 receiving yards, and quarterback Blake Begner threw for 160. The atmosphere was electric throughout the game, with the cheerleaders, band, and fans cheering on the team. After the game, the students stormed the field and joined the players in the singing of the school song. It was the Patriots first season opener victory since 2007. The next game didn’t have the same outcome, but the Patriots were still competitive, losing to Princeville 27-6. The team will travel to Rushville-Industry to take on the team many people have predicted to win the conference. Come out and support your Patriots at Rushville!
